Mental health or mental well-being is one of the most important components of life. It controls all other elements, such as physical health, emotional well-being, day-to-day activities, achievements, and a person’s overall life.
Here, I am going to write about the importance of mental health and practices to have good mental health.
Firstly, having good mental health is about having the right thinking and thought processes. There is no absolute method to have good mental health, but there are practices that help you to be healthy and not prone to being unwell.
Signs of Good mental health.
- You are happy and content.
- You have a healthy emotional condition.
- You are always in a good mood.
- You are ready to face any challenge
- You are strong enough to resist any bad thought of hurting or causing pain to yourself or others.
Every Human tends to make mistakes that hurt his mental health due to extreme or unusual circumstances. However, being resilient in all such circumstances is the test of one’s mental health. Adversities come to everyone, but being resilient in the face of such adversities and having the strength to not be affected by the adversity is a challenge, being able to navigate through the challenges depends on the quality and strength of the person’s mental health.
Mental health is a continuum and it varies from person to person, and from time to time. It may be low at a certain point and may be high at another, you need to accept both parts of your mental health and accept that they come as a package and are part and parcel of life.
Sadness is a part of life. You may be sad because your pet Dog died, or your mother is unwell. However, you should not let such situations affect your mental health. You may cry and feel sad for some time but after a period, come out of the phase and live your life as you intend to. This may not be particularly a happy time but try to build your life back again and I’m sure you will be happy again.
Tips in case of panic attacks/mental attacks.
- Observe and identify triggers that affect your mood. Then try to understand why you are being affected by the trigger. Once you have understood what and why the trigger affects your mental health. Try to find a solution.
- Play sports or do any physical activity. This helps in releasing dopamine and Serotonin in the brain and helps in having a new point of view of your problem.
- Relax and unwind using cold water baths. This makes your sensory receptors active and you feel fresh, giving you a good lift in your mood.
- Drinking Hot tea or coffee helps in uplifting your mood.
- Talk with someone you trust, and who you love, and explain what you are going through.
- Practice Meditation and relax your brain for a while. Overthinking an issue doesn’t necessarily solve it. It could merely make things worse.
- Consult a doctor if things are out of hand, there is no shame in asking for help. You will be saving yourself from a lot of pain by asking for help.
- Remember, mistakes happen to everyone, it might not be the same but everyone has already made mistakes or might do so in the future. Feeling ashamed of yourself or feeling guilty is just a feeling, which won’t be of such a magnitude always.
In case you feel suicidal, remember your life is not yours to take. You were not born because of your choice so don’t end it by your choice. You are a miracle of science and God’s will and whatever happens in your life, you should have the spine to face it and remember bad times don’t last long.
